The fall CLA Commencement Ceremony will take place at 1 pm. on Sunday, December 13, in Northrop Memorial Auditorium.


RSVP and Guest Information

Graduates will receive an invitation in early October with a link directing them to reserve up to six (6) seats for their guests. Graduates must RSVP online by November 9.

Graduates are asked to limit their guests to 6 (six). Please note that all seating is general admission, first come first served, and specific seats and/or consecutive seats are not guaranteed.


Graduate Assembly Information

Northrop Memorial Auditorium will open for seating one hour before the ceremony.

Graduates should meet on the 3rd floor of Northrop one hour (noon) before the ceremony. The procession into the auditorium will begin 30 minutes before the scheduled start time for the ceremony.

Graduates will need to leave their coats and valuables with their guests. The ceremony is expected to last approximately two and a half hours and includes a procession of faculty, students, regents, and other guests. There will be a commencement address and presentation of degree candidates. All degree candidates will cross the stage as their names are called.

Photos and DVDs

A commercial photographer will take pictures as the graduate crosses the stage. A proof will be emailed to the graduate or sent to the graduate's home address; there is no obligation to purchase photographs. The ceremony will also be professionally recorded, and DVDs may be purchased for $24.95.  DVD order forms will be available at the ceremony or online.

Northrop Parking Options

Persons with special needs can be dropped off at the ground-level entrance on the east side of Northrop Memorial Auditorium. (The horseshoe-shaped driveway is accessible from Church Street.) Parking is not allowed in the driveway, but drivers with state-issued disability permits may park in designated spaces in the Church Street Garage.

Disability Accommodations

Seating for the elderly and guests with physical disabilities will be available upon request.  Please make requests by Monday December 7, via email at commence@umn.edu or by phone: (612) 625-2020.  We strongly encourage family and guests with special needs to arrive early.

Reception

President Robert Bruininks and his wife, Susan Hagstrum, cordially invite you, a guest, and your family to a graduation reception with music and refreshments at Eastcliff, the official residence of University presidents. The reception will be held from 3:30 p.m to 5:00 p.m. on December 13.

From I-94: Take the Cretin-Vandalia exit south to Marshall Avenue. Turn right on Marshall and left on Otis Avenue to Dayton Avenue.

From Lake Street: Travel east over the Lake Street Bridge to Otis Avenue. Take a right on Otis Avenue to Dayton Avenue.
