Forget about how you studied in high school....things are completely different here.

For every hour you spent in class, plan on spending 2-3 more hours studying or working on project outside of class. Getting an education can be a full-time job!

Use campus resources--they're free and they will help you succeed!

The University offered everything for free tutoring to counseling to legal services to exercise facilities for students. This many be the only time in your life you can take advantage of perks like this!

Always keep an umbrella in your backpack--in
Minnesota it could open up and rain without any warning!

Sitting through Calculus class in wet clothes is not fun, take it from us.

Learn the
Gopher Way tunnels--for those days that you do forget your umbrella or when it's freezing cold outside!

Walking The Mall is wonderful on a crisp fall day but not so fun in mid-January. Follow the maps to get to your classes without developing hyperthermia.

Take responsibility for your education--no one earns your grades but you!

The grades you earn now will be on your records forevermore. Be sure to ask for help when you need it.

Get to know your academic advisor-they will be one of your best resources and closet allies on this campus.

But you already knew that, right?

Don't be afraid to talk to your professors--use their office hours!

Professor often state that students do not utilize office hours enough. You never know when going the extra mile will be worth the effort.

Check your U of M email account regularly!!!

It is your official form of communication here at the U of M. You will receive information about your tuition bill, advising updates and other need-to know info via email.

Use your Gopher Guide--it's a great way to stay organized and be on top of your assignments and tests.

Never used a planner? It's high time to start! Jot down deadlines and exam dates so you can plan ahead of time.

Learn how to manage all of your time--if you need help with it, the U has plenty of resources to help you out!

It's no small task juggling a full class schedule, homework, work and a social life. Learn how to do it all. We offer study skill classes, time management sessions and other workshops to teach you how to be successful.
