General InformationThe College of Liberal Arts Senior Celebration will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the McNamara Alumni Center. The Senior Celebration will be a mix of ceremony and celebration, including a short program with remarks from CLA's Dean and a student speaker. Light refreshments will be served and diploma covers will be distributed.
In order to accommodate the size of our fall graduating class and their guests, three Senior Celebration events will be held at the following times: 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m., each divided by major.

The Senior Celebration planning committee is seeking student representatives. Student input is important in shaping the event and making it special for our graduates. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Senior Celebration planning committee by email at email@example.com
Seniors that have applied to graduate for the summer 2013 and fall 2013 terms will be invited to attend both the Senior Celebration on December 12, 2013 and the spring CLA Commencement on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Please note that invitations to attend the spring 2014 CLA Commencement will be emailed in early March 2014. RSVP and Guest InformationIf you have applied to graduate for the summer 2013 or fall 2013 terms, you will receive a Senior Celebration invitation via email in late-October. You must RSVP by Thursday, November 14, if you wish to participate in the Senior Celebration. Graduates may bring up to four (4) guests.
Apply to be the Student SpeakerThe College of Liberal Arts will select one student speaker for each Senior Celebration reception. This is a unique opportunity for a graduate to take part in the program by addressing his or her fellow graduates, friends, and family.
All applicants must be in good standing with the university, eligible to graduate and scheduled to complete their degree requirements by December 2013, All applications will be reviewed by the office of the CLA Assistant Dean of Student Services.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please submit the following by Tuesday, November 12.
-A cover sheet with your name, major, and contact information (phone and email)
-A speech proposal of about 1-2 pages. The proposal should briefly address why you want to be the student speaker, but the majority of it should focus on the topic of your speech.
Speeches will be less than 4 minutes in length, or about 600 words. They should reflect on your experiences at the University of Minnesota and address topics that you believe will resonate with your audience. Student representatives will review all submissions and select finalists to interview before making final decisions.

Arrival & Check In ProcessThe Senior Celebration will take place in Memorial Hall located on the ground floor of the McNamara Center. The graduate check in tables will be located inside of Memorial Hall near the entrance to the Heritage Gallery. Event staff and signs will direct you to the check in location upon arrival. Please note: all graduates need to check in, but your guests do not. During check in, graduates will receive details about the event, along with a nametag, a diploma cover, and a photo card. Graduates should fill out the photo card upon arrival so it will be available to give to the photographer after their photo is taken.
PhotographyPhotographers will be at the Senior Celebration taking candid photos of graduates and guests. Please fill out the photo card upon arrival, so that it will be ready to give to the photographer. After the celebration, proofs of the photos will be sent to the contact information filled out on photo card.
Suggested AttireSuggested attire for the Senior Celebration is dressy casual. There will be a coat room available to all guests to store their winter attire during the reception.
Faculty InvitesCollege of Liberal Arts faculty members will be invited to attend the Senior Celebration. Students will also have the opportunity to extend invitations to specific faculty members when they RSVP online for the Senior Celebration.
Directions and ParkingThe McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak Street SE, is located on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus, across from Williams Arena and TCF Bank Stadium. Please visit the McNamara Directions and Parking site for detailed instructions.
Drop-off and Disability AccommodationsThe Oak Street entrance to McNamara Alumni Center has a driveway that accommodates drop-offs. Please use the McNamara Directions and Parking site to best identify the drop-off location.
